About The Fracture Mechanic

I am The Fracture Mechanic, a young engineer with a passion for everything to do with Structural Integrity engineering.

A bit about my background first; I grew up in Newcastle, Australia, where I obtained my NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Merewether High School. I then went on to study for a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (BEng(Hons)) at the University of Newcastle (UoN), graduating in April 2013 with Honours Class I.

Starting at the end of my second year of university, and continuing through to graduation, I worked casually with the engineering consultancy Aurecon. I worked in the Resources and Manufacturing (R&M) group, under the Senior Structural Integrity Engineer in R&M. During this period I had exposure to a wide range of projects, such as structural integrity assessments of various components in the resources and power industries, structural inspections of coal fired power stations and coal handling preparation plants (CHPP), condition monitoring (such as strain gauging and vibration monitoring) and non-destructive testing (NDT). After graduating I was offered a full time position with Aurecon, where I continued on in the R&M group for nearly two years.

In February 2015 I moved to the position I hold now, as a Structural Integrity Engineer with the engineering consultancy Quest Integrity, in their Advanced Engineering team. This position involves analysing stationary and rotating equipment for structural integrity in the Power and Oil & Gas industries. You can read more about Quest Integrity, and some of the projects I’ve worked on, here.

As well as working full time, I’m also studying for the Master’s Degree in Numerical Simulation in Engineering with ANSYS, at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). I’m in the last year of the degree, undertaking the Master’s Thesis component. You can read more about the Master’s degree here, and more about the Thesis component here.

In my spare time I love to SCUBA dive, listen to music and play board games.
